Overall, I think it’s a good time to have a girl in the 21st century because things are changing, with more opportunities for women. But girls are still the underdog, which means they’ll work harder, and everybody loves an underdog. The next Steve Jobs will totally be a chick, because girls are No. 2—and No. 2 always wins in America. Apple was a No. 2 company for years, and Apple embodies a lot of what have been defined as feminine traits: an emphasis on intuitive design, intellect, a strong sense of creativity, and that striving to always make the greatest version of something. Traditionally, men are more like Microsoft, where they’ll just make a fake version of what that chick made, then beat the shit out of her and try to intimidate everybody into using their product.

You have to watch the whole 8:34. I didn’t at first, because I couldn’t take any more of seeing UC Davis Police Lt. John Pike (530-752-3989, japikeiii@ucdavis.edu) pepper-spray a row of peaceful students like they were cockroaches.
But watching the nonviolent crowd (I never believed that nonviolence is a morally superior tactic, but it is effective) shame the pigs pointing rifles at them, and force them to retreat and leave (“You can go!”), might be the most inspiring thing you see all year.

To me, the perfect example of the transformation of this sector in New York is what is happening right across the East River, in Dumbo. Fifteen years ago, Dumbo was a community of warehouses and underused industrial buildings, many of which had been languishing for decades. Now, it is one of the most vibrant mixed used neighborhoods in the city. It is a neighborhood transformed. And what is the main industry in Dumbo? Internet companies… . here are more and more small start ups and midsized companies that have found affordable collaborative work spaces, creating exactly the sort of synergies that give rise to companies with similar growth potential. I wasn’t surprised when last week when it was announced that the first public wi-fi network in the city is in Dumbo. And I would not be surprised if the next Google or the next Facebook is born in one of these Dumbo buildings.
Went on a dumpling crawl with some friends from work. I ate ~20 dumplings across 9 different dumpling establishments. By the end you don’t really want to look another dumpling in the face. Of course it was turned into a competition. Here’s the point system:
Points are awarded and revoked based on simple tasks. The goal of the point system is to reward variety while maximizing dumpling consumption.
1 point for each dumpling you eat
1/2 point for each Tsingtao consumed (or other drink from Far East)
2 points for each dumpling house you order and consumed dumplings
1 point for each dumpling house you eat a sesame/golden pancake
-1 point for each dumpling you buy that is not eaten
-1 point for each time you vomit
